The Spot-on Problem with PHP Programming

There are a lot of things that have been said about things happening wrong with PHP. Some of them have even tried to defend how good PHP as a programming language is but the problem is that the entire concentration of the writers is on the language part and not on what is right or wrong with PHP programming language. 

In software programming this is a big problem since people are writing a lot but they are not trying to find the core problem that lies ahead for PHP programming.

The true essence of the problem with PHP programming is with the community that participates in group discussion pertaining to PHP programming. Remember we are talking about majority of the community not the fringes. There are amazing and talented bunch of individuals that are part of the group but on the fringes, there are people who write articles, tutorials, and posts that help beginners to learn the language.

The major problem is that majority of the people who write these posts are not aware of what are referring to. To give you an example; there is a site titled w3schools which shows up on top Google search page. But when you see the blog posts, you will find that there are lots of bad advices that have been given on the discussion post. With so much of participation happening, it becomes very difficult to ignore the things that are being written on these posts.

The solution for this problem is to have a respectable, authoritative tutorial source for PHP. Although there are lot of good write-ups encompassing articles and blogs that are accessible on the net they are lost in the horde of the bad ones. It is also a known fact that even the best writers have bad days and they can get things wrong hence it is very important to have php.net documentation which comprises of tutorials and non-language related content.

The fact that PHP docs are excellent is a well-known fact, but the way they are being depicted in the form of tutorials is the biggest issue. But if the PHP community can adopt a format that is conducive to all, it will have positive effects on PHP programming. For example; they can have a look at how WikiHow adopted Wiki…It is very important to initiate with a fundament tutorial site similar to wiki for example; tutorials.php.net.

Ask the community members to contribute content. They can post the content by modifying the content, making corrections or trimming content. With time, it can result into a treasured source of knowledge base for the PHP programmers.

Now will this idea, of having a new format for PHP tutorials in the form of documentation, have a major impact on the community? That is something which I am keeping my fingers crossed to see. However, one thing I know for sure is that, this spread of wrong information, needs to be addressed at the earliest.
